One of Those Days
It's one of those days, actually more than one of those days! When I first got my Kindle Fire HD, I had trouble setting up my e-mail accounts there. The situation somehow by magic was resolved, and I thought it was all set.
Then I changed my password. I did everything the same and put in the new password on the Kindle, and it wouldn't work. I finally had success by going to the Yahoo website and clicking for the mail that way. I still can't use the nice app that worked for me before.
Then, somehow, maybe because my Kindle talked to my iPhone and told it to act up because that might be fun, the iPhone wouldn't receive e-mail. After hours on the phone with the AT&T guy today, we got my personal e-mail to work. Still no success with the business one. Fortunately, I can still get everything on my desktop computer, but that won't always be the case when I'm out and about.
I do have way too many messages in my inbox, which might be part of the problem, so I will be deleting some of them. Still, that will take forever. In the meantime, my poor iPhone is in limbo, and my Kindle is doing a little better, but not by much.
Such is technology. Maybe it's the weather. Lots of rain today. It's as good an excuse as any.
Why is the cover for my romantic comedy, Girl of My Dreams, up here today?
Just to let you know - This book will be free again for Kindle/PC this Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20. If you didn't get your copy yet, here's your chance.
Here are the links for the various Amazon sites:
US/India - http://amzn.com/B0065R11QO
And if you're so inclined, after you read Girl of My Dreams, feel free to write a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads, and it would be much appreciated!

This is the story about the hardworking handyman who answers a frantic call in the middle of the night to fix a toilet leak in a penthouse bathroom.

Fufu, her Chinese Crested dog, the guilty party who started the flood in the first place, is even stranger looking, and not through in the devilment department.
Read all about their adventures in the Her Handyman Freebie Promotion this Friday March 1 through Sunday, March 3!
If you don't have a Kindle, you can still download to your PC.
Again, the link to this freebie is at http://amzn.com/B0097EVXBK

At one point, Girl of My Dreams reached #13 in Free Kindle Books, which is my personal best in KDP Select promotions! At 99 cents now, it's still doing well after the free promotion. Here's the link if you'd like to check it out: http://amzn.com/B0065R11QO
I hope everyone who clicked to download during the promotion will enjoy reading about the madcap adventures of the straitlaced assistant who became a reality show contestant. I'll be writing future romantic comedies later, because they're a lot of fun to do!
Next in the works is Blessing or Curse. Yes, I've been promising that for a while, but I'm almost through with my edits before it goes to the editor. I haven't paid too much attention to it, since I needed to give my already written books their due first. Blessing or Curse contains five separate romance stories about test subjects who take the Forever Young pill. This one's not a comedy, as it explores a range of emotions. Before doing another event, I plan on getting this book into shape.
As you may have guessed, authors don't have the luxury of just writing. Marketing is an important part of the business these days.
What about you? Do you spend time on special promotions? If so, what type?

My Second Born Book, Girl of My Dreams, Gets Her Event!
![]() |
| Girl of My Dreams by Morgan Mandel |
When I heard my mystery, Two Wrongs was accepted for publication, I was over the moon with joy. I'd finally achieved a goal I'd worked hard to get.
I set out to write another book, this time a romantic comedy, called Girl of My Dreams, and was also thrilled when that was accepted by the publishing company. Still, the second book took a backseat in the sense it wasn't my very first.
During a conversation with my mystery author friend, Austin S. Camacho, in the book room of a Love is Murder Mystery Conference, he convinced me that self-publication was worth the effort and expense. If I paid attention to what I wrote, then hired an editor and book designer, I could get a quality book ready in less time than the traditional route. Not only that, the cost was within my means. I'm grateful to him for that advice, since the older I've gotten, the more I don't feel like waiting. I've self-published Killer Career, Forever Young:Blessing or Curse and Her Handyman since our talk.
I digress. The purpose of this post is actually to mention my second born book, Girl of My Dreams, for which I received the rights back and got a brand new cover designed by Stephen Walker in the process, is taking center stage this Friday, Feb. 8, through Sunday, Feb. 10.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS - Girl of My Dreams, my romantic comedy about the straitlaced assistant's madcap adventures in a reality show will be FREE for Kindle or download to PC on Feb. 8 through Feb 10. See the links below to click for your freebie. I'd love to get tons of downloads so I can offer my second born her day in the sun!

Fortune Hunt by Morgan Mandel
Some of you ladies may not relate to this. You're the perfectly organized ones, with spotless homes, and always put everything in its place. You'd never think of changing purses without completely emptying the first purse before using the next.
I feel sorry for you, because you're missing out on playing the Fortune Hunt.
Here's how you play it. When you change purses, you don't empty the first one completely. In your hurry to get the next purse ready, you leave stray items inside the first: receipts, shopping lists, paper money, especially singles, and a bit of change.
Then you forget about using that first purse, or decide you just don't like it as much. You don't throw it away. You put it in the closet. Well, this goes on with more than one set of purses, because, let's face it, if you love purses as I do, you'll have plenty to play the game with.
Now comes the really fun part. When you need money, you go on the Fortune Hunt. I went on one this morning and found sixty dollars in my purses, plus eight dollars in change laying around my desk in singles and change! I'll use it all on my next vacation.
A little something of how this ties in with books. It just so happens that Zoe, the heroine in my upcoming romantic comedy release, Her Handyman, is also not a neatnick. She's an artist, and is more caught up with painting than inessentials. Well, she doesn't have to go on a Fortune Hunt, because she's got tons of money, but at least I admire where her heart is, with her passion, not stuff that doesn't matter as much.

Her Handyman by Morgan Mandel Coming Soon!
Things have been hectic lately, since I've been working on a new romantic comedy, which I'm calling Her Handyman.
I hope to have it out and about by the end of August. In the meantime, I'm offering a sneak peak at the cover.
Yes, this one has a dog in it. It's a Chinese Crested.
The only resemblance between this dog and my own dog, Rascal, is they both are white with black spots.
This one is cute in an ugly sort of way, which fits into the story.
Now, I'm back to my writing.

Social Networking - Splash and Splatter - by Morgan Mandel
We had another snowstorm over the weekend in the Chicago area. I was not happy about it, even though I should be used to it by now. After all, we seem to get one at least once a week this winter.
Yesterday morning, it got a bit warmer in Downtown Chicago. So, here I was dodging puddles and those scary slippery, mushy spots that happen after a snowstorm and a slight thaw, making my way, balancing my purse and tote bag on the left shoulder and my laptop computer on the right, scurrying as best I could to my day-job where I work as an administrative assistant in a law firm.
I wasn't doing too bad. Only a few blocks to go when suddenly out of nowhere on the street across from the sidewalk, a truck came roaring through, splashing everything surrounding it, including the nearby sidewalk. The spray came way too close. The vision of mudwater splattered all over my coat did not seem appealing. Thank goodness, I just managed to escape that fate.
Though I'd had a narrow escape and did not get splattered, the incident did get me thinking. Social networking is all about splashing and getting splattered. We make friends and join networks, listservs and sites, making large and small splashes, hoping to attract attention to ourselves and our books. How we do it depends on our personalities, as well as how well we learn from the experiences of others. We can be subtle or blatant, depending on rules set up on the various groups, sites and listservs and how much we pay attention to them.
While we're out and about splashing our way, we need to be prepared. We will inevitably get splattered by promotion from the other authors out there. We can side-step if we're not interested in what they offer, or we can happily get splashed and dive in, becoming a part of their lives, promotion and books.
I enjoy social networking and spend lots of time participating. Still, given my day-job responsibilities and the fact I do have a loving husband and a rascally dog named Rascal, I can't realistically spend as much time and effort bonding with the many authors as I'd like to, no matter how much I try. That said, what I do is pick the ones I really, really like or seem the most helpful to me, then respond and bond with them, willingly getting splattered by their joys and disappointments, immersing myself in their author lives, books and advice.
Everyone is different. It's for you to decide, as you wend your way social networking on the Web, do you want to splash, dodge, get splattered, or all three?
Remember, the more you put into it, the greater the return.
I'm on my way to getting splashed again!
