I will be the first to admit the social networks are a mystery to me.
They are the way to get your name out there, wherever out there happens to be. That magical special entity that will get your book noticed, name recognition established, word of mouth will travel in that magical land of space and suddenly you've gone viral. Sort of like a virus but in a good way.
Facebook, Goodreads and Twitter are the primary sources of sharing quick bits of your life, activities, and whatever else you want to share with the world at large.
I belong to all three, it is time consuming but rewarding, not in the magic of going viral and suddenly becoming a best seller, but in building a community, meeting some terrific and interesting people. You pop in for a visit, say hello and pop out again and in the process you develop relationships.
It takes time, but I've noticed I'm getting more comments on FB, more friends, more people following me on Twitter, my blog readership is steadily growing and Amazon is showing movement in sales. Progress is slow but consistent, and in the process I'm learning how to become more active, more social and that is not a bad thing.
In part my involvement in the social networks allowed me to grow, and become more open to sharing details of my life I never would have dreamed I'd ever do.
Next is tackling query letters and pestering agents. Sounds like fun
Till next time,

Social Networks
I founded Book Place to provide authors a forum to promote their books. I visit there often, interact with its members and post previews on the front page to advertise coming events, such as special guest appearances on my blogs.
Another place I like to visit is MySpace, where I can make friends with not only book people, but those from all walks of life. I often take advantage of their bulletin boards to tell friends what's happening in my world.
I stop off at Facebook, Bebo and GoodReads, but not as often because of time constraints.
The network I do visit many times each day is Twitter. That's because it's so simple. It's fast and easy and contains no ads. I can get in, post a message about my latest blog, and get out of there knowing anyone who is following me can see my message.
By the way, if you click any of the links above, you can join me on these networks.
What about you? What are your favorite social networks? Is there one you use more than the others? Why? Please share.

Goodreads - Author Promotion
Catch Morgan Mandel at Printer's Row on Saturday, June 7 from 10am-12pm at the MWA tent at Polk and Dearborn, Chicago - Location KK-1
Hi Gang,
As many of you already know, I'm heavy on Internet promotion. I had joined Goodreads a while back, but got busy with other sites and forgot to update my page there. An e-mail from another Goodreads member reminded me, so I've spent a bit of time the last few days updating my member info, adding friends and getting approval to add my author info, add an excerpt from Girl of My Dreams, and all kinds of other information.
Anyway, after I started adding friends, before I knew it I was getting many other friend requests. Apparently, Goodreads is very popular right now.
Here's my author profile page if you'd care to check it out:

You can sign up yourself at www.goodreads.com and please add me as your friend.
See you there,
